Emmaline and I watched the new Star Trek film. Satisfied with it. Em more so since she's a Cumberbatch fan. I am happy with the reboot of the series and think the casting for the primaries was done smartly.
Couple incidental things that I didn't care for, but I never do in any film that tries to show diversity and strangeness. When films with alien races pan the camera just to show the different aliens. EH! Gratuitous especially since you don't give these diverse species major parts. It's like panning for the token race whether it be a black person, an Asian or a woman. Trying to convince me that you're all encompassing and empathetic to acceptance. Don't do it. I can see that there are those different than the white male present. It seems it's only done to show that 'no, we the creators of this here darn fine film haven't forgotten others.' Pandering. Star Wars did it in the cantina scene. It happens more often than not; and I know it seems a stupid thing to gripe about but it does bother me.
And it seems Nimoy has a role for the rest of his life. Unsure about that one. Love him but rethink using him. I think having Quinto's Spock maintaining communication with Nimoy's Spock is not right.
Not a big review of the film. Not a purist or Trekkie or extreme fan of the shows, series, or films so I'm not going into what was wrong or spot on. Some fun little references to the television series. I enjoyed the film. Looking forward to the next in the series.
